Todd is an unincorporated community straddling the county lines of Watauga and Ashe counties in northwestern North Carolina. 
The community center is located near a scenic stretch of the South Fork of the New River at an elevation of 2,992 feet. The nearby terrain ranges from gentle slopes to steep mountain ridges. The water of the New River flows gently over timeworn rocks giving kayakers and fishermen alike endless memorable adventures. Visitors can take a guided fishing tour with River Girl Fishing Company or rent a canoe for a family fun-filled day on the water. Step back in time and visit the historic Todd General Store for local Smalltalk. 
Wallow in delight at the Mercantile and Bakery as sweet smells of artisan bread and baked goods indulge your senses. Residents can often be seen biking the winding scenic road running along the river while admiring the sights and sounds of river life. An abundance of wildlife surrounds this natural paradise, giving the outdoorsman a variety of gaming options. Several state parks and nature preserves are within a short drive offering additional recreational possibilities.
History
The settlement of the Todd area was started by an initial interest in farming, mining, and timber. Later in the early 20th century, the Virginia-Carolina Railway came to town and the timber industry took off. The new opportunity spiked growth in the small town. The boom lasted only a few years and when the railroad left so did the people. Today, many are being drawn back to the area because of the natural beauty and low-stress lifestyle the area is known for.
Location
Located 20 minutes from Boone and West Jefferson, Todd is ideal for the person who wants to get away from it all, yet stay within a short drive of modern conveniences. The closest large city to Todd is Hickory which is just a short 70-minute drive.
